Hi Frank,

Thanks a lot for your response. If time permits, can you suggest some topinc in the field of smart antenna/beamforming techniques?

Regards
Zan

Zan,
Sorry for the lateness in the response, I didn't really go into detail
because I'm quite  busy. For my masters, I worked on turbo codes and
turbo equalization. I am more experience with signal processing,
estimation, coding, Rayleigh fading. This Yahoo egroup is mostly on
narrowband audio.  There are a lot of ways to figure out a topic: find
some aspect that is inefficient and propose techniques (hopefully
novel) to solve the problem. Often, students would just do whatever the
supervisor says to do. If you haven't already done it, you could always
print out the four QEX Youngblood articles available from
www.flex-radio.com and show them to your supervisor. I don't know what
you have available in your group. Maybe you can work custom IC for high
speed sample and hold circuits, if you want to go along with the spirit
of what is discussed here, but much larger bandwidth. You could compare
it with other downconversion methods and chipsets. I have no knowledge
in VLSI fabrication, so I can't really help you on that. I always had
somebody else do the RF in designs I was involved with, focusing more
on the DSP algorithms and code implementation. I'm playing with this
quadrature sampling detector in my spare time, more just starting to
open my  eyes on what I can do from the IF stage.
Hope this helps,
Frank
