My experience with using the DRM 1.6.43 CVS to receive DW Radio, was that the
signal was very weak and I was unable to get audio but I had no trouble getting
the multimedia data with graphics and the Stations Frequency Schedule.
RCI in Sackville NB Canada comes in well here and I am amazed at the audio.
But RCI has no data or mutilimedia service.
I find that the DREAM SDR AM Mode format works well on audio quality with very
sensitive demodulation, with little noise. The noise reduction feature of the
1.6.42 CVS is very resources hungry on my slow speed Win 98 but I find that the
sound already has some noise reduction going on.
I am finding that using I/Q mode the tuning is by way of the spectrum being
above, or to the upper right of the LO IN from 0 to 24 kHz. With Winrad, CIAO
and SDRadio the LO IN is always the center of the spectrum display. So thats
the difference.
CIAO has a USBrx feature that makes the display look like the DRM display and
when used for tuning; you can then switch it off and turn on DRM and find the
display the same. Occaisionally you have to tweek the LO IN to get the
spectrum as you want.
Well, using all of this SDR stuff is interesting. The newness has not quite
worn off yet.
