Hello, I am thinking about how SDR seems to work from a non software
programmers perspective. Which means in laymans terms. And I could have the
wrong idea here but my experience with the softwares so far leads me to believe
that the software is a kind of DSP ware that acts like a i.f. mixer by
injecting a beat frequency into the base band signal in the sound card.
This then means that in my view here that the software is acting as a BFO and
a detector? And the BFO is thus variable to allow for selection of a desired
signal. I do not know in reality if this is the idea behind the workings or
not? Anyways, if this is perhaps a sort of explaination in laymans terms that
can be used to visualize how this works in reduced down concepts, let us know
sometime.
I do know that software can act as a signal generator since there are a few
signal as well as sweep generator softwares around the net. And this then
leads me to wonder if not that there is a signal generator runing in the SDR
software in the background?
