   Jim,

   it is not only a matter of image rejection... suppose you are
listening in a BW of 500 Hz with a CW pitch set to 700 Hz. What you
effectively hear is the range 700 - 250 = 450 Hz to 700 + 250 = 950 Hz.

If there is interfering tone at 900 Hz, if you reverse the position of
the LO with respect to the wanted signal, now that interfering tone will
be at 500 Hz, which may or may not be  of less disturbance to the
listener's ears, depending on the personal preferences, the frequency
response of the headset/speaker used, etc.
