That is a sign that your PC is not keeping up with the data coming from the sound card. I could be a multitude of things, such as; Your PC is too slow period. Your PC has software running that is taking too much of the CPU time away from the task of processing the audio such as anti-virus or networking If having a USB sound card your USB system is too slow because of poor drivers or having slow devices plugged in to the same hub as the sound card. You have lousy sound card drivers that need to be updated. The sound card driver buffers is not setup properly. You are sampling faster than your PC is capable of handling. There lot's of things causing audio dropout, you just have to go through all the items and clean them up as much as possible, you can start by reducing the sampling rate of the sound card and see if that helps.
