I had received in the past a couple of reports saying that when
launching Winrad, the program did not show up, but it was listed in
the Processes pane of the Task Manager. I had no suggestions, not
knowing what could be the cause of that strange behavior.

Today it suddenly happened to me too... so I went in search of the
culprit. I forced the termination, one by one, of all the processes
listed as active by the Windows Task Manager, checking each time if
Winrad would start. And finally I found the responsible...

I had installed since a couple of days the System Mechanics 7, an
utility that, supposedly, should help in the maintenance of the PC. I
did that, despite some warning I had read on Internet that, referred
to that utility, ranged from "a piece of crap" to "most dangerous than
a virus". I had dismissed them, thinking they had originated either
from the competition, or from unsatisfied users, for a reason or another.

Well, it turned out that they were right... terminating the process
that is started at boot time by System Mechanic, all of a sudden the
problem with Winrad went away. Needless to say, now my copy of System
Mechanic (luckily still in the 60 days evaluation period) is in the
virtual dust bin...
