I've been meaning to hook up an ultrasonic detector to the input of my
SDR-IQ and do something similar.

However, I then made a bat monitor instead (I then bought a commercially
made unit as well) and intended to record the sounds on a digital
recorder. However, due to the cold weather and some family issues, I
didn't have enough time to go out and listen for bats much this year.

I am monitoring the 12kHz output from my TS-2000X through the SDR-IQ and
the display doesn't have the same vertical lines as evident on the
soundcard sample, so I guess the SDR-IQ could reasonably easily be used
to monitor bats.

At these frequencies, you need to be careful near noisy sources of low
frequencies, such as fluorescent lights and even running water or
jangling keys, as they are all emitters of low frequency signals of
course. In fact, they can be a useful way to see if your ultrasonic
detector is working before you take it out into the field.
