Whenever I've seen this sort of "pause problem" vdr sits there happily
forever(?!) showing the same image. When replay is started within a short
time (<30 min?) it carries on working fine. If playback is resumed after
a long time it usually plays about a seconds' worth of video before
hanging.
It is difficult to get this to happen on demand so I've never managed to
get a stack trace, though.

Do you see the same behaviour or does it just become responsive without
restarting playback?
