Are you using the patched gentoo vdr-1.x.y  or a vanilla version ?
In this gentoo bug:

ffmpeg is at SVN-8560.

"ffmpeg 2>&1 | grep SVN" for my system is:
FFmpeg version SVN-r8627, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
without these problems.
