yeah, got some funny emails as well. It seems that in the future you can update up to 6 or 7 versions back, but have to pay 70% of the full original price (which funny enough was increased quite considerably for XSI not that long ago). I'm sure an Autodesk representative would be able to explain why this is a fantastic thing to happen.
I'd call it your basic miss-use of a monopoly.
