Film studios can and some time will allow interesting candidates in for a tour, but only if there's at least an informal chat in there somewhere. Door knocking unannounced is not an option.
The smaller studios, if you know somebody, will most of the time close an eye on someone walking in to visit and be given a quick tour, but again, door knocking somewhere where you don't know anybody is not going to go down well. At most you'll get to the reception to leave a hard copy of the reel, or you will just be turned down and asked not to do it again. This depends entirely from the staff and style of the place. In general a complete stranger with no connections will not be welcome. The moment you do CG fee-for-service you have NDAs stacked somewhere, and that means you don't let random people in.
