Not sure if this is the case with you, but ICE resets values to defaults if not specified explicitly. For example if you have a node or a compound that takes a int or scalar value as input and you set it directly to some value then on a refresh the tree will be set to defaults. To persist the value you have use a constant scalar or int node and connect  it to the input.
