Less that people don't care, more that there isn't much they can do. The site is crippled by a virus / malware and only a few people have access to fix it. Additionally to prevent further infestation, the software needs to be updated. This is problematic as the site is highly customized on a bulletin board system which is years and years out of date meaning upgrading is almost impossible or very very difficult and time consuming.
