Won't you run into the problem that the Object ID's are aliased? That's why I never pursued much in that direction regarding after effects. You would just end up with poor mattes. I'm interested to hear how you worked around that.
What I would really prefer is a multi-channel EXR out of soft with user definable mattes per channel. Just one grayscale channel per object would be nice. We use a lot of RGB mattes with AE and it works well, I just wish I could get many more layers out of one seqeunce.
