Correction - thinking about it I realized my use of the term multifractal here 
was incorrect, apologies, in fact a multifractal (where the resulting set is 
made less homogenous) would tend to increase the guttering problem. 
Summing/normalizing turbulences simply breaks up contiguous areas of pooling. 
My bad :P
