Yeah, but it allowed you to branch-select multiple branches in one move. It was the main way in which I moved around nodes. Maybe it was just used intensively by a select few and the rest doesn't even miss it. If the majority of users prefers it this way then it's the right choice and just our personal problem.
An option would be nice though.
