Siggraph is roughly one month away. For those attending, I arrange an annual dinner where we can meet and trade bites instead of bytes. Attendance varies year over year, but averages about 20-25 people.
This year Siggraph is in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention center which is in the middle of Disneyland (literally). Normally I pick a restaurant within walking distance of the convention center, but Disneyland and its surroundings tend to be expensive and crowded - especially during the height of the summer vacation season. For that reason I am considering a location a bit offsite. One potential site is 'Don the BeachCombers' restaurant in Sunset Beach, California (http://www.donthebeachcomber.com) which would be a 15-20 minute drive from the convention center. If that doesn't appeal, I have other sites in mind too. That said, I have a few questions: 1) What is the farthest you'd be willing to travel from the convention center to meet for dinner? You can specify in distance or travel time. 2) What night of the week would you prefer to meet? The dinner is usually held on Sunday evening because it usually has the fewest events, everybody is in town, and it's easy to get a reservation for large parties. If you are interested in attending, send me an email offline at: Matt(dot)lind(at)mantom(dot)net Include number of attendees and any needs such as diet restrictions. Right now it's just a survey so I can gauge interest, no commitment on your part yet. Matt
