Personally, given that clearly the Softimage team is going to have to pick its battles I prefer devs spend their time and resources, whenever possible, on extending the software versus eating up time supporting multiple favors of any OS... ...unless a studio with a great many seats of the software makes it an issue, in which case the number of licenses might justify the effort.
