this didn’t start out as an ICE bashing tread,
it was about the importance of the basic toolset - which some are tied to for whatever reasons.

Productions have been done for many years before/without ICE - it's not a be all end all replacement for the rest of the toolset - though I'm sure some FX/TD oriented people might get that impression.

ICE is great and all and it's a shame to avoid using it - but the basic toolset is getting little development efforts while ICE sucks most attention to it - or so it seems at least. That's not a healthy outlook on the long run - as well as very frustrating for those using ICE sparingly or not at all.
