Splitting a still render into multiple frames (addon?)

Hey guys,

Anybody remember an addon/plugin/script for splitting one still frame into
multiple renders of different portions of it?

If I'm not mistaken it's as simple as carefully planning the "Pass Crop
Window" parameters in the Pass Options ppg, but before I script it, has
someone publicly done this already?
