As the author of something like LKL,  it would have been surprising if you -didn't- have a project-specific/optimized custom setup lol.

Also, while LkLightning can of course do and guide tesla like electrical strands,
you could just as well have called it something like LK HighPerformance*  non-simulated effects framework .. or something like that ;)
* staying live and interactive even with lots of stuff going on

Cause just looking at the range of effects/applications with only a handful of nodes/settings,
   
"Lightning" seems to only be the beginning(!) :)

They perform better because they lack the overhead of a more general system like LKL. Still all non-simulated though, just like LKL.
Obviously having something purpose-build from the ground up for every effect is a luxury, which is why we still used LKL for as much as we could.
