I don't know about Autodesk provided licenses, but XSI licenses granted by Avid have a life of about 10 years from date of issue. Although they were called 'permanent', they weren't really permanent. Just long enough to outlive it's useful life.
I found that out the hard way when I tried to dust off my older XSI 3.x licenses so I could work on really old data that isn't supported in newer versions of Softimage. Ironically, my Softimage|3D license from 1999 still runs - that one really is a permanent license as long as you have the equipment to run it. The other bit of irony there is Softimage|3D runs fine on the latest version of Windows, but the license manager (FlexLM) doesn't run on anything newer than Windows XP. Without the license manager you get about 120 seconds before the application exits. Work fast. We have a few stand alone Maya with SI licenses with subscription and a few days ago (about a week or maybe more), SI 2013 licenses have stopped working and they are not longer in my Account License Manager. I've contacted my reseller but I'm still waiting for their response. At this rate, eventually we won't be able to use Softimage anymore? Martin ------ Softimage Mailing List.
