Siggraph is getting closer by the day. This year it will be in Anaheim, California from July 24-28, 2016. The convention center is literally across the street from Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure theme parks.
As many of you know, I have arranged a dinner every year at Siggraph since 2002 often inviting people from this list as well as other places to meet and greet in a casual environment to share your professional and personal lives over a nice meal. With Softimage now officially off of support and my own career heading in a different direction, this will likely be the 15th and last dinner I arrange. So if you want to meet fellow Softimage users and other industry professionals, this is the last time I'll provide such an environment. The dinner is very casual. My first choice for location is not within walking distance of the convention center, so those details will be kept quiet until I can work out logistics. If it can't be worked out, I'll try to reserve the upper deck patio at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in downtown Disney as was done when Siggraph was last in Anaheim in 2013. I'm tentatively planning on Sunday July 24, 2016 with meet n' greet in the bar at 6:00 pm and sitting down for dinner around 7:15 pm. Sunday was chosen because historically that's the day most people are in town with the least activity scheduled. I can move it to another night if enough people request it. If you are interested in attending, please contact me offline at matt(dot)lind(at)mantom(dot)net with subject 'siggraph dinner 2016'. Please include headcount for your party, and any requirements such as dietary restrictions, handicap access, etc.. Whether this dinner actually happens will be dependent on the amount of interest received. Guests are invited as long as you notify me ahead of time the headcount. What I do not want, is for people to say they're coming and not show up, because that stiffs the people who do show up with an extra large bill to pay for the empty seats that were paid in advance to reserve the space. You are free to change your mind until reservations are finalized. Reservations cannot be made until 7 days before the event, so you have plenty of time to decide.
