Both the ver 4 boards are nearly identical component wise.
The 4.2 board eliminates an expensive A to D
converter. The 4.2 board has better detector
isolation and has a few other enhancements
related to the physical layout of the board. The
ver 4.2 board uses the much less expensive and
much more available Master Oscillator that is
available from Digikey and will support either
the Digikey osc or the Valpey Fisher big bucks
osc. The ver 4.1 board requires the very
expensive and hard to find Valpey Fisher low
phase noise oscillators, the Digikey low phase
noise oscillator is not supported. The ver 4.2
board has provisions for the vhf and vhf
transverter, extending the usable range from 60
MHz to well over 400 MHz if the user needs higher frequency coverage.
It is an expensive project, but incredibly useful
and it works as well as commercial test equipment costing thousands of $$.
