Another way to customise Tom's hex may be to get the data fron Dick's Excel 
VBS 3.0 in Files/K9IVB-Si570. Dick says it will run in earlier versions of 
Excel but I have only got this to run in Excel 2007 so far. But it will open 
in Open Office  or Excel 2000 and even if you cannot get it to run it will 
give a list of all the default values every 20KHz on all of  the amateur 
bands.

If you can run Dick's program it will calculate the registers for any 
frequency (up to 400MHz?) and these may be put in Tom's hex after it has 
been run once. Read the startup registers from the PIC after it has been 
run.

I THINK that Tom's hex could be edited before programming the PIC using the 
default values from Dick's program or any of the others. Then Tom's clever 
program will adjust these to suit your Si570 when it is first run. I have 
NOT tried this.
