What you say is true, Alan - in fact, I had worked out the mechanics of 
switching the bandpass filters and setting the frequency with a single 
switch (using relays and a couple of encoder ICs).  However, I am basically 
not a homebrewer - it's not what I enjoy, as compared to operating in 
contests - and the 4-6 SoftRock solution has some appeal for its sheer 
simplicity.  I'm also thinking that there will be a bunch of single-band 
SoftRock Lites available now that people are diving into the multi-band
