It's a USB Experiment interface board kit offered by Velleman. It has
8 digital outputs, 5 digital inputs, 2 analog inputs and outputs.
It may be a little bit over kill, but it's a thought.

It looks like it's made for industrial control, put that puppy in the
closet with the AC and wire it up to give your home a really smart
heating/cooling profile and save a ton of money. Those connectors are
not put on cheap boards but they are handy.
Did you find what CPU it uses, I didn't see it, and more important
are the I2C connections brought out? But then there is bit banging.
Actually the circuit for a small PIC or AVR CPU chip is so simple,
take a look at the schematic of the new SoftRock, power, ground and
that is it, the rest is programming magic, and even that is not
difficult or expensive since so many compilers have a free limited
version, but capable enough to pretty much do anything needed.
