I had a problem like that once and it turned out to be my faulty 
connection of the bifilar winding on the input filter.  Even though 
it did work on the desired frequency, it had much better response on 
another frequency.  I swept the input with my DDS-60 to find where it 
really was receiving.  Rewinding fixed my problem.
