one other thing... If driving the base of an NPN transistor be sure to have a 
series resistor from S12V to the base of the transistor to limit the load 
current on the S12V output.

  Hi Mike,

  No, the S12V hole is an output from the board that can be used to SIGNAL to 
some external device that the board is in TX mode.  The external load on S12V 
should be limited to a max of a few mA such as driving an NPN transistor base 
where the transistor is then controlling current in some external device.
