-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks
Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the UDS session on UI enhancements <https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-software-center-ui>, because I was pulled into a boring but important meeting about indicators at the last minute. I really like most of the ideas listed there, and I'll work to incorporate them into the spec in the next couple of weeks. There are only a couple that I don't understand. One of them is "Display the package name more prominently in the details view". I've just watched the video <http://blip.tv/ubuntu-developers/ubuntu-uds-o-budapest-enhancements-to-the-software-center-ui-and-experience-5249699> to hear the rationale for this. I heard one example given to justify this, Sound Juicer. If you search for "sound juicer" in USC, it comes up as "Audio CD Extractor", and that was cited as confusing. As Kiwinote suggested at the time, this is a bug in the application. The application interface and associated Web sites refer to it as "Sound Juicer", so the .desktop file should too. I've now reported this. <http://launchpad.net/bugs/796646> So, I don't think we should make the package name more prominent based on that example. In comparison, Apple's various App Stores, the Android Market, and the Blackberry App World don't show any equivalent to package names *at all*. What perhaps we could do is change the current presentation of the package name from, for example, "18.1.1-0ubuntu1 (deja-dup)" to "deja-dup 18.1.1-0ubuntu1". That would at least be more convenient for copying and pasting (e.g. when reporting bugs or answering tech support questions). Other than that, I propose that we remove this work item. Yay? Nay? - -- mpt -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAk32JmIACgkQ6PUxNfU6ecoCJACgyx/zKJPOtzYrv8TMZ6/FAP5e MqQAoJyP+7gHNmrr0jNb9LgxfVJZGG/U =irAU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~software-store-developers Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~software-store-developers More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
