SQA Engineer Role Specific Skills (dependent on specific opening): * Data Validation: Senior level SQL query skills (Oracle) o Demonstrable ability to leverage the different types of table joins within Oracle (SQL Server would be nice as well) o Ability to understand business rules or logic as found in Oracle PL/SQL programs * Comfortable working in an informal working towards more formal software development department * Performs testing tasks with minimal oversight and direction, in coordination with test leads * Strong collaborative consulting communication skills. Experience working with internal customers to determine requirements in lieu of formal documentation – excellent customer facing skills * Strong initiative to seek out requirements and testing scope when little formal documentation is provided a must * Understands and can execute risk- based and other testing methodologies * Strong ability to estimate testing effort and communicate multiple testing options * Able to write test strategies for smaller, less complex projects, or contribute to larger test strategy initiatives * Able to develop test cases involving complex GUI, SQL or Oracle database validation * Ability to identify testing or requirement gaps or complications * Strong analytical skills. Able to drive down to the root cause of software failures and communicate to project team members. Ability to pull multiple issues together to see larger patterns of failure * Strong ability to estimate testing effort and communicate multiple testing options * Able to write test strategies for smaller, less complex projects, or contribute to larger test strategy initiatives * Able to develop test cases involving complex Oracle database validation (SQL Server and GUI would be nice, too) * Able to write clear, detailed and reproducible defect reports. This is vital * Ability to participate in defect triage meetings and provide meaningful imput to drive resolution * Able to identify areas for testing process improvement and implement them on individual projects * Actively works with project team members to find ways to improve test coverage and depth * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate with all levels of project team members. Able to escalate issues within project team and drive towards solving collaboratively within team * Understanding of how and when to escalate to PM and Management. * Excellent at reporting accurate and timely status of projects/releases/builds * Excellent at reporting critical risk items in a timely manner as it relates to: o Keeping the software stable during test phases o Meeting project milestones. * Professional, respectful, courteous at all times. Actively utilizes conflict resolutions skills * Possess the ability and experience to provide basic presentations within core of assigned knowledge and project * GUI Testing: 2 or more years experience hands-on testing web applications is a bonus. Required Experience * Minimum 2-5 years experience hands-on testing in database environments. Client/server and/or web environment testing experience is helpful. This is not a lead position but must have the ability to take charge when needed. Experienced in testing data driven websites, data validation between and inside databases, end-to-end testing of data, ETL data testing, and data warehouse validation * 2 or more years working on Project Teams managed by project managers as well as self-managed high performing teams * 2 or more years managing small test projects a plus * Proven ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with business and technical staff * Experienced with both white and black box testing approaches * Expert manual testing skills, recent functional automation experience is highly desired * Experience writing test cases with traceability reporting and statistics back to requirements * Experience with multiple defect tracking systems and typical defect escalation procedures.
