The Database Administrator supervises the planning, design, maintenance and performance of enterprise databases to ensure proper integration and effective use of the company’s data. Formulates and implements database standards and procedures. Monitors and plans for system performance and capacity. Reviews and analyzes software for potential benefits to the organization and determines optimum configuration required. Analyzes changes and enhancements to software issued by computer vendors and determines impact on existing production systems, system design, programming standards and operating procedures. Provides technical support to development staff, as needed. Qualifications: • Implement new database software, modifications, patches and full scale upgrades in an optimal manner without adverse effects on current production and testing and with minimal impact on development activities. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge about database software and educate the development staff on new features, as appropriate. • Design and implement efficient and reliable database backups and restores • Install, configure, support and optimize database environments • Maintain the database logs and monitor space requirements • Conducts vendor negotiations, contracts and offers guidance on database purchases. • Creates and maintains documentation of database configurations and assures adherence to company policies Expert knowledge in implementing and administering Oracle databases. Knowledge of Microsoft SQL databases a strong plus. Knowledge of nCluster or Postgres databases a plus. Knowledge of Informix databases a plus.
