Hi guys,
No email contact for days so this is pretty long....bike has now done 3100miles and is
going sooo strong...no problems at all on this trip (so far touch wood lol)....in
Prague we found inadvertently a very dodgy bar frequented by the local prostitutes and
they were offering all sorts of things but no we didnt partake....in fact we had only
gone there for a beer - we did wonder why it was soo expensive lol....anyway since
Prague....we left there and drove to the East Bohemia and the Adspach mountains to see
the samdstone coloumns of rock....we reached there at 5pm, got a campsite and then
went walking in the hills to see the sandstone coloums - very cool but we almost got
lost as it was getting dark....very tough waling with biker jacket and boots lol...got
out just as sun was setting! Then headed into local town to find a mountan bike race
was in preparation and they would be starting at 8am the next morning and we would
have to get up before them and leave before they closed the roads!! It was 5C in the
morning and there was ice on the bike seats brrrrrrrrr.....from here we drove to
Karlovy Vary old royal imprial spa town....as we drove along the czech border we
noticed a lot of single woman standing periodically along the road - all prostitutes!!
Some looked very young and unhappy....sad to see....some were just old and ugly!! The
road on the whole was pretty good and we made good time....some nice twisty corners
and it was dry.....Got to K:V and it was nice and pretty but really for old people who
come and walk along the promenade and drink the healthy thermal water lol....and there
was a folk festival going on attended by all the farmers it seemed lol...all dressed
up in traditional folk costumes....but bad music!! Next day we got out of Czech and
got stopped at the border by the German polic - they asked us if we had a drink this
morning - it was only 10.30am!!!! They let us go and i think he was dissappointed...i
guess it was my fault for driving up to the border wearing shades although it was
partially r
aining :-) We were glad to be back into Germany as we only have EU insurance lol...we
had some nice roads over Saxon Switzerland the highest mountains in Germany
apparently...some nice roads here for blasting along.....stopped for lunch at Konach,
a quiet little German town with castle and old half-timbered houses and no tourists
and no one spoke English - wonderful!! However all the cobbled streets were a little
hard on the bikes. After here more country road driving through the hills and we
noticed a lot of roads closed - flood damage or just roadworks....we arrived at
Wiemar, historical east german town, famous for the Bauhaus movement (home of modern
architecture), Johan Sebastian Bach studied and lived here as did Franz List, and
Goethe. Also this is where the Wiemar constitution was drawn up after world war 1. We
got a very nice pension and the old town was great to see...very impresive and the
local Thuringian food was excellent - sampled all in one grill platter :-). Next
morning we got up and went to the Buchwauld concentration camp 10km north of
town....very sobering place and something u have to experience for yourself. After
this it was off through farmland roads to Eisenach, birthplace of Bach....it rained
all the way and when we got to Eisenach we encountered lots of roadworks and traffic
jams...fortunately some German harley drivers where in front of us and they used some
inventive overtaking to get round the jam...going on sidewalks (on both sides of the
road!!), over grass verges and weaving in and out of traffic...naturally we followed
lol...ddint spend too long in Eisenach due to rain and pushed on for the Fairytale
road (where all Borthers Grimm, pied piper of Hamelin) etc come from...we drove as far
as Bowendarer (spelling is wrong I think) where Baron Von Munchausen comes from....we
saw his house and we stayed here last night in a local b&b which was very cosy and
even had a garage for the bikes - which are now very dirty due to the all-day rain
yesterday!! Today we drove to Hamelin (home
 o
f the famous Pied Piper) and saw quaint old town and left within about 20mins lol and
drove up the 251/75 to Hamburg where we are now - pension is recently refurbished and
is in an old style building so tall cielings and wooden floors...very plush lol....now
about to go find tourist info and see what the old port town of Hamburg is
like....journey almost finished with North Holland tomorrow and then arrive in
Amsterdam Thursday for one last party lol.....
thanks for listening,
Andy in Hamburg
