Well, I went to the dealer and got a new clutch pushrod. It's the same length as the
old one.
Now, parhaps the pressure plate (the thing the rod presses on) has worn down........
I dunno.
Can anyone measure how far that rod protrudes from the clutch assembly on a "proper"
bike?

Subject: 74 CB550 Clutch woes - Lever adjustment
Hi all - first post to the newly repaired list.
I am SOOOO stumped.
I've checked the assembly 231924938 times and I'm sure it's assembled properly.
I got this bike as a "not running" bike and had the engine running quickly.
However, the clutch was screwy. There was lots and lots and lots of play in the
clutch lever (the one on clutch case) The clutch play adjuster (small nut/bolt on
side of clutch case) was adjusted fully. Even with all the play adjusted out of the
cable I could not get the clutch to work properly.
I am starting to suspect that the rod that presses on the pressure plate is
topo short.
I think someone reassembled this bike from a hodgepodge of parts, possibly
from different 550s.
Does someone have a 74CB550K0 that has the clutch apart? Could you measure
the length of that pushrod?
If the pushrod on my bike was about 1/4 inch (maybe less) longer, it'd work,
I'm sure of it.
