Hey there. Been a while since I posted anything, but here goes nothing....

I'm having idle problems with my '78 CB750F. Over the winter I rebuilt the carbs, and
found that they
were, generally, in very good shape. No clogs, very little varnish, nothing really to
do but replace parts.
Now, however, I can't get the poor thing to idle properly.

Everything is stock (new paper air filter, stock jets, new plugs, good points and
spark, etc.), and I
started with the pilot screws out 1 and 1/4 turn out. It wouldn't even start, so I
gave them 1/4 turn
out, tried to start, repeat.

Eventually, at 2 turns out, I could get the bike to start with a couple pumps of the
throttle and the
choke all the way out. However, it would race to 4000rpm (or higher), causing me to
keep a hand on
the choke to keep the RPMs under control. The end result being, it would start, race,
then die (not idle).

The only way I can get it to idle is to go through this pump-throttle, choke out,
start, control racing
RPMs, die, repeat, until the engine gets warm enough where it will idle somewhere
around around
1000-1200rpms.

Any idea of what might be wrong before I take it to the dealer this weekend? I'm
installing new tires,
and if I can't get it to idle properly before then, I'm just going to pay them to fix
whatever I may have
messed up during the rebuild.

Many thanks,

Paul
