I'm running solaris9 x86 on my home machine. I've been recently doing some upgrades to run mysql, as well as other programs. However these programs themselves have dependancies.
I was intending to remove perl (5.6.1) and replace the installation with the latest release(5.8.0). However when I try and use the pkgrm command to remove the version of perl which came with my distribution, it warns me of dependancies with other core solaris packages.
Would those packages hold path information etc. specifically pointing to the Perl version ie. 561? Or do they call the 'perl' command and as long as its in $PATH.
I've successfully compiled perl (5.8.0), and it seems happily to live in /usr/local. Is it safe for me to remove the packages, knowing that there is actually an installation of perl on the system, or will it look for libs etc in a 5.6.1 directory structure???
Thanks in Advance!
