If you want to make an exact copy, use ufsdump.
When you ufsrestore the data you will have to put the bootblock on

If all you want to do is make another machine very similar then use a flar
acrchive.

see man pages for flarcreate

you can then cut this archive to cd/dvd or tape or put on a network.
When you come to build, you boot from solaris cd or network as normal and
during the installation you will be asked do you want to build from an
archive.

it will put new host, vfstab files and nodename etc.... so you won't end
up with 2 machines with the same details on the net.

cheers.

Subject: [Solaris-Users] Best way to duplicate a disk?

I would like to create a working duplicate hard drive on an X86 Solaris 9
system that I can use to install in another similar system. I suppose this
would be described as a "Clone". I am assuming that the IDE drive is an
identical capacity.

Can anyone suggest to me the very best way of doing this? If the drive
were
a larger capacity, what would the implications be for this whole process?

Best regards,

Michael
