Stoyan,
Doesn't a machine go through run level 2 to get to 3? Why shut down the ftp server before you start it? What about for shutting down/restarting or going into single user mode. Shouldn't the ftp server be stopped then too?
Thanks
Chris (very much a rookie)

hello Chris,
i do also use proftpd as a standalone server with solaris 5.8. i have put my startup script in /etc/rc3.d/S52proftpd and the shutdown script is in /etc/rc2.d/K15proftpd.
hope this helps,
Stoyan
