from a mainframe background. We had a product that kept fairly detailed
information about the activity on the system and wrote the information to a
file.

could find out such things a who accessed a file at what time and what type of
access (read, write,..)
Does
anyone know of if there is any thing similiar to this accounting function on a
Solaris box?
