yes - you can use qpopper with postfix. it is a very robust and reliable
piece of software. qpopper is also listed on postfix's web page:

"qpopper is fully compliant with RFC 1939 (which defines the POP
protocol) and RFC 2449 (which defines the POP extension mechanism and
the extended response codes)..."
additionally qpopper supports TLS/SSL-enabled authentication, logging
that may help you use pop-before-smtp authentication with the help of
some additional scripts and many other features.
