spinrite may help.

also hiren's boot cd has lots of hard disk maintenance tools. The idea
is that all Hard disks has some kind of MTBF MTTF, and ZFS targets the
right solution.

It can also be that some cables or electrical connectivity works better
on one machine than on the other. Try it on another machine.
