I noticed an interface sppp0 on my server, apparently pppd got

hi Neil,

this is probably your DSCP (Domain to Service Processor Communication Protocol). there is a good blog entry explaining what it is:
http://blogs.sun.com/olympus/entry/dscp

you may also check the Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000/M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers Administration Guide to get more information regarding DSCP (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3601-16)

services I could find. I pkgrm most of the SUNWppp packages, but when I
try to remove SUNWpppdu it tells me that SUNWdscpu depends on it. Not a
lot about this on the 'net, and I haven't found anyting about _removing_
ipsec/pppd from Solaris 10. How do I rid my M5000 of this?

you can disable the svc:/platform/sun4u/dscp:default smf service, then if needed you may remove the interface using the /etc/rc2.d/S47pppd script.

greetings,

Stoyan
