oh you have still not deserted that qemu thing...

my understanding is that the disk image for qemu should be created using the 'qemu-image create' command:

qemu-image create -f qcow solaris8_sparc.img 16G

this will create a 16Gb blank disk image, you then use the

'qemu-system-sparc.exe -nographic -cdrom Solaris8.iso -bios ss5.bin -m 256 -hda solaris8_sparc.img -serial mon:telnet:127.0.0.1:23,server,nowait' command or whatever the qemu documentation recommend to start qemu.
