GNU Solfege records a lot of data about the exercises, which should be
enough to implement a spaced repetition algorithm.

Studies have shown that spaced repetition can considerably improve
long-term memory recall. The idea is to rehearse a memory exercise
(typically a flashcard) at the precise moment you're about to forget it.

Here's a simple spaced repetition algorithm to implement:

That's SM2; later versions of the SuperMemo algorithm are considerably
more complex (they're up to SM11).

Other open source spaced repetition tools (such as Anki or The Mnemosyne
Project) start with a Supermemo algorithm and tweak it a bit.
