i haven't really had a chance to follow along ... the biggest questions to
adding new functinality are "is the API clean? are we willing to support
the API going forward?" ... since this won't be in an "official" release
until 1.3, now seems like the perfect time to commit it if you are fairly
confident in the API because even if we need to tweak it we've got plenty
of time.


excellent. I am reasonably confident about the API, but I'm sure it will have some minor tweeks as people try it in their use-case.

Now that 1.2 is branched, I'd really like to focus on getting SOLR-20 living in trunk. This has two major pre-requisites:
* SOLR-135 - sharing common code in a separate jar
* SOLR-193 - a general SolrDocument interface

SOLR-135 is plumbing, SOLR-193 should be considered carefully. If anyone has time to look at these, it would be great.
