OK, I've committed this! Thanks everyone!
I'll leave this bug open for now as a place to accumulate patches.
Some things that are missing (but optional and not currently high on my TODO
list):
- field faceting when facet.sort=false
- distributed idf... this has a performance cost, and should matter little in
a well mixed index.
