I'm looking at this issue now. I used to think "sure, this will work fine",
but I'm looking at a 1B doc index (split over N servers) and am suddenly very
scared of having to store more than necessary in the index. In other words,
writing custom field value loaders from external storage sounds like the right
thing to do. Perhaps one such loader could simply load from the index itself.
