What Noble meant is to get SOLR + DIH out of the equation first, focus on the
DB + JDBC first -  use any java program using  JDBC to confirm the data coming
from MySQL via JDBC is utf-8 (or utf8 clean, not sure of what you need). once
you have the jdbc working there, the same config settings can be used in DIH.
