Code used is this:

Directory directory = new FSDirectory(new File(luceneIndexDir), null);
reader = IndexReader.open(directory, true); // open directory read-only

...
reader.document(curDoc++, FIELD_SELECTOR);
...

and it bombs on the document() call.
