   - By deploying I meant adding the class to an external jar in the
   SolrHome/lib folder  and registering the class in the solrconfig.xml
   - When I my tests from the IDE using maven, a notification in the log
   during the solrj initialization appeared. When using the solr tar.gz
   standard distribution deployed in my servlet container- there was no
   notification in the log, and all http requests that worked in my test (using
   direct solr server)  failed.
   - I have consulted Lance and adding the mails
